An electric actuated ball valve should be selected as a complete valve-and-actuator package. Valve size alone does not establish the required torque, control function or mounting compatibility. The RFQ should state the operating medium, pressure and temperature together with the required electrical controls.
1. Define the ball valve and process duty
Valve construction
State one-piece, two-piece or three-piece construction; full or reduced port; connection type; body and seat materials.
Operating condition
Provide medium, solids content, pressure, temperature, operating frequency and any corrosive, hazardous or outdoor environment.
Required function
Identify simple open/close isolation or modulating/regulating duty. Specify the desired action after loss of supply if applicable.
2. Match actuator torque and ISO 5211 mounting
For a quarter-turn ball valve, selection should account for break torque, running torque and seating torque at the actual differential pressure and temperature. Confirm the stem and ISO 5211 mounting interface, available clearance, manual override and the required duty cycle. An oversized or undersized actuator can affect operating life and shutoff performance.
3. Select the control package
| Requirement | Typical specification input |
|---|---|
| On-off / open-close | Supply voltage, open/close command method, operating time, limit switches and manual override. |
| Modulating / regulating | 4–20 mA, 0–10 V or project protocol; position accuracy, feedback and duty cycle. |
| Monitoring | Position feedback, open/close indication, torque alarm, local controls and cable entry requirements. |
| Environment | Ingress protection, ambient temperature, corrosion protection, hazardous-area requirements and certificates. |
4. Customer-specified actuator models
For projects that specify Rotork, AUMA, SAMSON or another existing actuator model, share the nameplate, valve torque, interface, supply voltage, command and feedback requirement. Jinkon can review compatibility and provide or replace a valve-actuator package subject to engineering confirmation and availability.
