An electric actuated butterfly valve combines quarter-turn valve isolation or control with remote operation. Correct sizing requires both valve operating torque and the actual service conditions, including differential pressure, cycle frequency and any required control function.
What to define before selection
- Valve type: wafer, lug or flanged; concentric or eccentric design.
- Size, pressure rating and flange standard.
- Medium, temperature and compatible body, disc and seat materials.
- Power supply, on/off or modulating control signal, enclosure rating and manual override.
- Required position feedback, travel limit switches and fail position.
Actuator torque is not a nominal-only decision
The actuator should be selected with adequate margin for seating, breakaway and operating torque under the specified differential pressure. Viscous media, deposits, high cycle duty and low temperatures can alter the torque requirement. Confirm the valve manufacturer’s torque data before final order placement.
