Marine valve projects require more than a nominal size and pressure class. The selected valve must match the system medium, piping standard, installation location, operating function, material requirement and applicable project documentation scope. A complete RFQ enables the valve package to be reviewed before production.
1. Typical marine valve applications
Seawater and ballast
Confirm corrosion resistance, connection standard, pressure, temperature and isolation, regulating or non-return duty.
Bilge, fuel and utility systems
Specify medium compatibility, emergency shutoff requirements, valve orientation and required operating method.
Offshore and process systems
Provide project operating data, materials, environmental protection, actuator function and documentation requirements.
2. Select the valve type for its duty
| Valve family | Typical role |
|---|---|
| Butterfly valve | Compact isolation or control on larger-diameter marine piping, with manual, pneumatic or electric actuation options. |
| Gate and globe valve | Isolation or throttling duties where valve configuration and flow-path requirements determine selection. |
| Check valve | Reverse-flow prevention in pump discharge, seawater, bilge and utility lines. |
| Ball and quick-closing valve | Fast quarter-turn isolation or application-specific emergency shutoff when the project requires it. |
3. Materials, actuation and documentation
State the body, trim, disc, seat and seal requirements in relation to the medium and service conditions. For actuated valves, provide the required supply, control mode, feedback, manual override and fail action. If the project requests class or inspection documentation, identify the exact scope early so product availability and documentation coordination can be confirmed.
4. Marine valve RFQ checklist
- System and application: seawater, ballast, bilge, fuel, firewater, utility or process duty
- Valve type, size, pressure, temperature, connection and material
- Valve function, installation orientation and actuator/control requirement
- Requested drawing, test, inspection or project documentation scope
- Quantity, vessel/project schedule and delivery destination
